STREETWISE YOUTH GROUP
Streetwise began another session in August with approximately 50 kids of primary age. These numbers have remained constant over the last 3 months with many returning for another year and a large increase in new members.
Some of the activities we’ve had so far this term have been – making Indian Headresses, making suncatchers and a Halloween party with prizes for fancy dress (expertly judged by Mary Jarvie and Jean Carson).
We have also tried to get the kids involved in some “kitchen” activities this year, with them making Rocky Roads, Marshmallow Top Hats and Crispy Cakes. They also made a number of chocolate covered apples to sell at the Autumn Fayre.
So far this year we’ve also had a quiz night, a few games nights and are looking forward to the Christmas treats that we have lined up (still top secret, so details to follow!)
The Church Fayre was a big first for us this year, as this was the first time that Streetwise have taken part in the fundraising. In conjunction with the Mystery Hunters we helped run a Hotdog / Chocolate Fountain stall, a Beat the Goalie stall and 2 fairground game stalls, with some of the children along to help. This was a big success and we very much hope to repeat this involvement next year.
The leaders are all very committed and have volunteered a great deal of their time to keep the club running and very much look forward to the challenges that the New Year will bring. We would like to thank both the Kirk Session and the church for all the help and support that they have given us over the last few months / years and would also like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all of the parents and kids who come along each week and make the club such a success!
